Why this race matters

No candidate cleared 50% in the May 19 Republican primary, where Rep. Mike Collins (40.5%) and former football coach Derek Dooley (30.2%) outpaced Rep. Buddy Carter (25.1%) to reach a June 16 runoff. President Trump's late endorsement of Collins helped him defeat Dooley — who had Governor Brian Kemp's backing — for the right to challenge Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff.
